چکیده

Maciej Wódkiewicz* The soil seed bank and seed germination capacity of Poa annua in the vicinity of the Polish Halina Galera* Antarctic Station (South Shetlands, Antarctica) were investigated. It was documented that Katarzyna J. Chwedorzewska† annual bluegrass can reproduce sexually and produce a functional seed bank of close to Irena Giełwanowska‡ and 5000 seeds/m under maritime Antarctic conditions. Comparison of germination between Poa annua and two native plant species revealed that Poa annua seeds can germinate as Maria Olech§ fast or even faster than native species, and are more vigorous. Our studies show that in *Department of Plant Ecology and the Antarctic Poa annua can successfully reproduce sexually and produce fully developed, Environmental Conservation, Faculty of viable caryopses that are able to survive the maritime Antarctic winter, not only in a soil Biology, University of Warsaw, Al. bank, but also directly in the previous year’s inflorescences. Effect of shrub type on species diversity and richness of soil seed bank in semiarid regions (case study: Chenarnaz rangelands, Khatam city, Yazd province)

Soil seed bank can facilitate natural regeneration of rangeland ecosystems. This bank is usually influenced by local plant species. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of canopy cover of three shrubs (Amygdalus scoparia, Daphne mezereum and Ebenus stellata) on the diversity and richness of soil seed bank under their canopies in Chenarnaz rangelands, Khatam city, Yazd province. Fi...

Individual and interactive effects of crop type and management on weed and seed bank composition in an organic rotation

We investigated the effects of organic and conventional pest and fertility management on weed cover and the seed bank community in an organic rotation. The study was conducted during the 4th and 5th years of an organic rotation on part of a long term organic-conventional comparison trial. Results showed that although crop type (potato vs. cabbage) in a single year significantly affected wee...
